remaining SAGADA 9 FINALLY RELEASED!

As of Dec. 21, 2006, the remaining 9 "punks" known as the SAGADA 11 were released with the court decision on Tuesday that the multiple murder and arson case was DISMISSED due to LACK OF EVEIDENCE as presided over by Judge Benigno Galacgac of the Benguet Regional Trial Court.

The SAGADA 9 backpackers wishes to thank those those who helped w/ the campaign- from the streets to the internet, from here & abroad- those who's faces they've never even seen- although there is NO mention of the specifics in their public speech, and made to read a scripted statement to the press- they are greeted with welcoming cheers.

Corporate media like Inq7.net did note the ONLINE PETITION, which reached the peak of 2,000+ Signatories. And the OVERWHELMING INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT via different AUTONOMOUS ACTIONS overseas from Asia, US & Europe.

Project A
An Open University for Activists

The A Open University aims to provide a consistent and comprehensive learning process to activists and those who call themselves students of anarchist thought and critical thinking. Proponents of the A project and motivators of the local anarchist and autonomous activist movement recognize the need for sustained education – for its participants and new blood that would be drawn in by various campaigns and for those who associate themselves with anti-authoritarian ideals.

Lectures are planned to be given through a set of modules per topic. The modules are anti-copyright, and students of the university are even encouraged to duplicate and redistribute them for non-profit and educational purposes. To facilitate discussion, translations in Filipino (mainly Tagalog) are to be made available.

The modules are intended to accomodate people newly interested in anarchist thought, workers who may not have enough time reading tons of anarchist literature, and other people who definitely need it for their learning process. For those who think that they are ‘advanced’ in the realm of anarchist and autonomist theory and praxis, think of it as some kind of rehash or review and to also challenge your present state of ‘expertise’ on the subject matter – after all, you might have misinterpreted some classical text and used it several times, unknowing that you’re talking nonsense or even misrepresenting anarchism as a whole (shame on you).

An outline of Module 1 is as follows:

1.3Who are the main proponents of anarchist thought?
1.4Supplemental Readings

In the future, Project A will launch forums/discussion pages online. This will help people further digest their knowledge and exchange ideas and experiences with others, promoting an atmosphere of critical thought and practical action.

Monica Sjoo is dead. She died on Monday the 8th of August, of cancer, surrounded by her loving friends.

Monica was an artist, a writer, one of the early, powerful visionaries of the women’s spirituality movement. Her book, The Great Cosmic Mother, brought the hidden history of the Goddess back alive, and her paintings transformed ancient images and symbols into contemporary icons of female power.

I first met Monica in 1985, on a walk with women activists from the Greenham Common Peace Camp, that began in Avebury on Beltaine and crossed the military firing ranges of Salisbury Plain to celebrate a wild, powerful, illicit ritual at Stonehenge during a lunar eclipse. Monica was strong, blunt, sometimes painfully honest, gruff, brilliant and courageous. She faced huge losses in her own life with courage and creativity, and wrote with truthful self-revelation of her own griefs and disappointments. She continued to paint, write and create.

The last time I saw Monica, she came for a night to the Earth Activist Training I was coteaching in England. She presided over the ritual we were having that night in her wheelchair, sitting by the fire like an embodiment of the Crone herself. We told stories, of the walk and the Stonehenge ritual, of Greenham and the antinuclear actions of the eighties, of the early years of the feminist spirituality movement. The younger women activists—and the men—listened with rapt attention to a history most of them had never heard. Monica seemed strong, at peace, complete. That is how I will remember her, her silver hair shining in the firelight, her eyes alight. One of the mothers of the women’s spirituality movement is gone. May the Goddess embrace her, take her into her loving arms, and bring her strong, creative spirit around the circle to rebirth.

Sherman Austin, anarchist webmaster, was sentenced on August 4, 2003, to one year in federal prison with three years of strict probation. Austin was sentenced to this despite entering a plea bargin with the prosecution who had asked that Austin be sentenced to 4 months in prison.

Sherman entered a plea with the prosecution after being threatened with 20 years in prison by authorities -- and after a string of police and FBI attacks, thefts and violent arrests.

Sherman is the 20-year-old webmaster of the popular anarchist website www.raisethefist.com. Authorities arrested Sherman claiming he had information on the site related to bomb making.

Sherman countered that this information was not illegal, only promoting its use was AND that many other websites including Amazon.com and numerous white power sites display much more bomb-making information. The authorities then threatened to use vague Patriot Act statues to incarcerate Austin for 20 years -- even though Austin broke no regular or current law.
